Team Development

Insights Discovery

The Insights Team Effectiveness model views a team through the colour lens, creating a solid framework that caters for all needs and areas of team working excellence.

This process works universally across all types of teams; those that are forming or merging, as well as established teams. Outstanding results can be seen in teams that are underperforming, as well as well-run teams that simply want to be the best they can be. The proof of the pudding is demonstrated in shared actions, collective commitment, transparency, and clarity over direction.

Once a team has been through the introductory Discovery programme, engaged with the colour energies and worked with the team wheel, we translate the behaviours into a facilitated team assessment exercise.

The beauty of this experiential process is that everyone has a voice and feels part of the story. When it comes to action planning and taking ownership, there are greater levels of commitment because of the collective involvement in the process

We usually start with the dominant colour energies, four flip charts and flipchart pens (or breakout rooms and whiteboards if we’re working with a virtual, dispersed or hybrid team)

Each of the Discovery colour energies brings their natural behavioural strengths and style to the team.

The Insights Discovery Team Effectiveness model flips these behaviours into the skills of a team, helping the team compare where they’re instinctively strong, and what they might need to be aware of, behaviourally speaking.

The Team Effectiveness model provides a framework that unearths issues and identifies where the team’s energy might need to be focused. If a team scores low in any of these elements there is work to be done and a balance needs to be achieved to reach maximum effectiveness.

The elements measured are:

Process

A team with strong processes will thrive on its mix of skills, aligned priorities, and ability to measure individual and team performance.

Climate

A team with a healthy climate shows up as cohesive under pressure, encourages candour and doesn’t leave any one member behind.

Flow

A team in flow has an open dialogue, space for new ideas, is agile, innovative and always ready to respond when needed.

Focus

A team with a clear focus will have a shared vision, be accountable and have a strong commitment to delivering results.

The Team Effectiveness model is designed to celebrate success and unearth issues, gaps or blind spots. This is done by asking everyone in the team to rate (1 to 6, 6 being all the time or amazing) how well they believe the team performs in each of the measurable elements we can measure and prioritise needs.

Once the team has completed the facilitated team assessment, tangible actions are set through group action learning, then we use models like SMART objective setting or RACI planning to ensure accountability and follow-through is maximised.
